PREPARE FOR THE EMOTIONAL JOURNEY
“There are no strange lands. Whoever travels is the only stranger. ” – Robert Louis Stevenson
For me, the most difficult part of emigration is this, the emotional part. To face new things, to leave the famous comfort zone. Migrating is not usually easy, especially if it is not by choice. You have to take into account the causes of emigration, if you have support in place of arrival, distance from your point of origin, and do not know how long you will be away from your site.
If you have not yet emigrated, the first thing you have to do is remove the daisy. Decide I want I do not want to emigrate. If you can allow yourself to think about deciding whether or not to leave (you can not always take time to think about whether you are going or not, since it is a very important step, and that it is a step that weighs. important is that you decide already: stay or leave, whatever your choice, you must do it convinced.
As a friend says, who has also emigrated: Remember that you should not do what others expect of you or what is supposed to be done, you should do what your heart asks and find the option that best suits you .
If you do not have it clear whether to emigrate or not It is a good option that you feel in a place that is comfortable for you and that you have a time to write without interruptions and write in 4 columns: advantages of leaving, inconveniences of leaving, advantages of stay, inconvenience to stay. Usually the advantages of one side coincide with the disadvantages of the other, but not necessarily, since one advantage of emigrating is that you will make new friends and have unforgettable experiences, and that, to a lesser degree, can also be had if you stay. Once the list is made, order them from most to least important for you and rate each one from 1 to 10, being 1 is unimportant and 10 is very important. For example when I emigrated to Ireland an advantage was to improve my English, and that is always good, but for me, that my level of English was already high was not as important as for someone who needs English for their work and not he knows. Once assessed each section adds each column and subtracts the advantages of each thing with its drawbacks and with the number that gives you compares the 2 figures. It will give you an important clue whether you should leave or not. . .
Once the list is made, and the decision made, keep it as gold in cloth. It is very safe that you need it from time to time. Because you probably will get in doubt if you did the right thing and it’s good that you re … Another exercise that is going well, and it will be part of this exercise is that you write a letter telling you
“Hello my dear, I have decided to emigrate (or not) because after a deep reflection and suspecting the advantages and disadvantages that are … .., I have made this decision”
I hope this first post to prepare emotionally has been useful. It is the first in a post series on how to prepare emotionally
If you want to tell your experiences as emigrants, or with emigrants, positively, you are welcome.
